Flo Forward Now Supports Judicial Clerkships as Work Experience

Judicial clerkships sit at a unique intersection in a lawyer's career: they are a prestigious first step for many, and an experience that shapes what comes next. Capturing them accurately in a career platform requires specific data that generic job tracking does not handle well. With this release, Flo Forward adds native support for judicial clerkship tracking, part of a broader push to make Flo the most comprehensive career navigator for lawyers. Flo is the fastest shipping company in the legal talent industry, and we are already building toward what comes after this.

The problem

Lawyers who clerk, have clerked, or are pursuing clerkships have not had a clear way to represent that experience accurately in Flo Forward. A court could be listed as an employer, but there was no way to distinguish a judicial clerkship from an internship or other court-related role. That made it harder for candidates to present a complete and accurate picture of their background at a career stage where those distinctions matter.

As Flo Forward expands to support lawyers who are currently clerking and preparing for their post-clerkship search, getting that data right from the start is essential.

What we shipped

We made two related updates to the Work Experience section in Flo Forward:

• All US Courts now appear in the employer dropdown. Students and candidates can find and select any federal or state court as their workplace without having to type in a custom entry.
• A conditional judicial clerkship checkbox. When a lawyer selects any court as their employer, a checkbox appears asking them to confirm whether the position is a judicial clerkship. The checkbox only surfaces when it is relevant, so the experience stays clean for everyone else.
  

This groundwork is the first step in a larger effort to bring clerking candidates fully into the Flo Forward experience later this year.

Why it matters

Accurate clerkship data has real downstream value for career services teams. It feeds into outcomes reporting, informs advising for students considering clerkships, and creates a cleaner record for candidates who will use Forward to manage their post-clerkship search.

For lawyers, the change is simple and unobtrusive. If you are entering a clerkship, one extra checkbox confirms it. If you are not, you never see it. That kind of conditional design keeps the interface honest without adding friction for people it does not apply to.

More broadly, this sets the foundation for Flo Forward to serve a population of lawyers who are already in the workforce and planning their next opportunity after a clerkship ends, not only students entering the market for the first time. This is the foundation, not the finish line. Expanded support for clerking candidates is coming later this year, and getting the data model right now means that work builds on something solid.
