In-Person and Virtual Interviews in a Single Interview Program

  • 3 mins

Running in-person and virtual interviews through the same program in Flo has not been straightforward for law school career services offices, and the workarounds were wearing on career services offices. We’re excited to finally deliver true hybrid interview program experiences.

The problem

Interview Management previously handled virtual interviews cleanly, but adding in-person interviews to the same program meant splitting workflows, creating separate events, or accepting that some information would live outside the system. For schools running large interview days with a mix of formats, or programs where some employers prefer in-person while others are staying virtual, this created coordination overhead that fell on the admin.

Career services teams needed one place to manage the full picture: format, location, employer preference, scheduling, and communications. Running parallel systems to cover in-person and virtual wasn't scalable, and it introduced the kind of ambiguity that leads to missed interviews and last-minute confusion.

What we shipped

Interview Management now supports in-person and virtual interviews within the same event. Law school admins can configure interview type and location at the time block level during scheduling, or go further and set it at the individual time slot level on the event schedule. Both formats live inside a single program with no splitting required.

Key capabilities include:

  • One event supports both in-person and virtual interviews.
  • An optional admin setting lets employers indicate their preferred interview type (in-person or virtual). Employer preferences are visible to admins during time block assignment, which reduces back-and-forth.
  • Admins can set a custom location for in-person interviews or a custom link for external virtual interviews, at the time block or individual slot level.
  • Interview format and location are clearly displayed across the admin employer schedules table, the student bids table, the employer matched schedules table, the interviewer table, and the live event dashboard.
  • Email notifications for schedule assignments and updates clearly state interview format and location for employers, interviewers, and students.

On the student and interviewer side, everyone sees the format and location directly on their schedule views. Virtual interviews include join links. In-person interviews include location details. There is no ambiguity about where or how an interview is happening.

Why it matters

This closes a significant gap for schools running on-campus interview programs where not every employer is doing things the same way. Hybrid programs, multi-office employers, and large interview days all become manageable inside a single event. Career services offices can see exactly what is virtual and what is in-person at a glance, and catch issues early without digging through separate systems.

Employers no longer need to communicate format preferences outside the platform. Students and interviewers get the information they need directly in their schedule views. And updated email notifications mean fewer missed interviews and less confusion on the day itself. This is now live and actively in use, with remaining polish items shipping over the next two weeks.

Getting in-person and virtual into the same program was a clear ask, and we built it while programs were already running. If there are edge cases in your specific setup that this doesn't cover yet, tell us!
