Small gaps in a document can create big confusion downstream, especially when a performance review moves outside the system and into a conversation. Flo is the fastest-moving platform in the legal talent industry, and this week we closed one of those gaps: question descriptions now travel with the question when you export a review to PDF.
Performance review forms often carry more than just a question title. Admins write descriptions to give reviewers context: what "leadership" means at this firm, how to calibrate a rating, or what specific behaviors a question is probing for. That guidance matters.
For Professional Development and HR teams sharing reviews with partners, committees, or lawyers themselves, they needed context of the framing that shaped how the question was meant to be answered.
What we released
Admins configuring a PDF template can now choose to include each question's description beneath its title, on a per-form basis. The setting lives in the template configuration, so teams have full control over which forms include descriptions in the export and which keep the cleaner, title-only format.
When the option is enabled, the exported PDF renders the question title followed by its description, exactly as it appears when a reviewer fills out the form inside Flo. Nothing is reformatted or truncated.
This matters most when reviews leave the system. A PDF shared with a compensation committee, a promotion panel, or a lawyer receiving their own feedback needs to stand on its own. When the question description is present, the reader understands not just what was asked but what the question was designed to surface. That makes the document more useful in the room where decisions get made.
It also reduces the back-and-forth that PD and HR teams often absorb. When reviewers or partners reading a PDF have to ask what a question meant, someone has to explain it. Including the description at the source removes that step entirely.
This is the kind of detail that looks small from the outside but makes a real difference when you are presenting reviews to senior stakeholders.
